A Sick Sense Of Humor

That’s what the fates have: A SICK sense of humor. Poor Wife recovers from strep throat just in time for Christmas, and then comes down with a vicious attack of acute viral gastroenteritis, likely caused by this sick bastard, at last night’s Devils / Islanders game.

For the record: It’s cool to be led around in the bowels of Continental Arena, seeing where the players’ wives hang out, the medical area, the place the players dine before a game. It’s not cool for the reason for your tour to be an usher pulling you aside: “Sir … are you with the girl in the Devils jersey? She’s being taken to our medical unit …”

And so our weekend is one of care and illness. We’re to take vacation on Tuesday … she should recover fully by then, and with any luck, I won’t catch the damn thing myself.

I’ve propped her up enough to control the TiVo remote, and she’ll likely be asking for the iBook before long. If she does, she’ll check in here. So wish her well in the comments, will ya? She could use a smile.

Kate, I hope you feel better soon.

As an aside, I swear I put a hex on the Devils, not you!

Dear Aunt Kate:
So sorry to hear about your illness. We had no knowledge on Xmas Eve when we spoke w/ My Sweet Baboo. Hope all is better now and no one else is suffering. Have a wonderful New Years. Love, Us

We hope you feel better soon Kate! I'm sure Alan is taking great care of you. We'll be thinking of you when we watch the 49ers beat Seattle today...go Pack!

A garlic burger and a shot of tequilla should fix that right up, but we should wait until Tuesday to test my theory. Get well soon, we can't wait to sled at midnight on new years with you. By the way, 36inches over the last 24hrs at Alta and the canyons are still closed. I am grinning from ear to ear. Get better and go Cowboys!!!

Kate, we are so sorry. I hope you feel better soon, and I would go easy on Scottie's advice for now.

Kate, I hope you are feeling better, and this vicious thing that has infiltrated you body has run its course and moved on to a more deserving host. With a little luck, you will be recovered enough to be sledding at midnight on New Years Eve. Unfortunately, it does not appear as if Racky McRackrack and I will be joining you this year, but perhaps with better foresight and planning, we will be swooshing with you on the eve of 2005. --Gene

Thanks for all of your well wishes! I am finally up and about, although not completely 100%, but working on it.

The way I look at it, my brother flies in for Christmas and finally gets to go see the Devils, after a few years "balck-out" on the West coast, and I conveniently get sick in order to give him a behind the scenes tour at the Continental Airlines arena. Besides that, we got a security van to escort us to our car.

Actually, some joked I was being dramatic about how the Devils were playing that night, ah-hem. Speaking of, Michelle, I believe you when you say that you did not put a hex on them.

All kidding aside, the arena's Medical/EMT unit and ushers were (and still are) fantastic, kind, and went above and beyond for me.

Again thanks for your well wishes ... hopefully I will remain at least this healthy for the remainder of 2003.
